I love my days off! I work part time and usually have a Thursday or Friday off during the week. These are the days that I can plan to do my housework, tidy my floordrobe up in my room (the clothing arranged on the floor), or put some washing on, however, what I end up doing, is realising that I have a whole day to myself and an empty house to actually chill out and feel free of guilt for enjoying it.
Chilling out helps the body to de-stress and the mind to unwind, we all need to take a much earned day off. How could you not?
So here is my favourite way to spend a day off:-
Coffee
When I have done my school run first thing in the morning, I head straight to the nearest coffee house and order my usual caramel latte, to take away.
It's usually lunch time when I'm in the kitchen thinking about having another coffee, bring on my Nespresso machine.
I honestly can not explain the joy coffee brings me, the experts will say its because of the dopamine levels being raised upon your first sip. But for me, I just don't think science is the reason. The smell and pure indulgence of a great coffee bean, is my whole fulfillment.
No Traffic
All I seem to do during the week is sit in traffic. I actually inform people that I don't drive, because on my commutes to the school then onto work, I'm at a standstill more than working up the gears. Sat in traffic, losing my patience and the will to live!
My favourite day is a Friday, there seems to be less queuing. So on those Fridays I make the most of it, I don't mind going the long way back home, I select my favourite playlist and take pleasure in knowing, I'm not in a rush to get somewhere.

No Stress
I'm pretty sure I am not the only one who wishes their day would involve absolutely no drama whatsoever, but it can be impossible. I rarely have days when there isn't something, no matter how small, that causes stress. So when I can enjoy a day that is reasonably good, I appreciate that more.
Stress can wreak havoc on our bodies, not to mention strain on your heart. Put everything to one side just for one day and chill.
Phone call
Chatting, gossip searching and reminiscing, are a few things I take pleasure in when I have days off. I set aside a special part of my day to catch up with my friends and family members. Keeping in contact is very important, because vice versa I feel honoured when I get a random call or msg from someone 'checking in'. It's a lovely feeling, so I write in my diary the people to contact each week and stick to it.

Binge Watching
To me 'binge watching' is watching a particular TV program, one episode after another, before knowing it, it's finished. I love doing this, if the program is that good why not binge it to your heart's content?
Entire seasons may take a whole day or just a few hours to watch and be gripped. Just another of my favourite ways I like to spend a day off, catching up on watch lists.
Sitting in the garden
Sitting in the sunshine soaking up the summery sky, this makes me happy. I'm not really a keen gardener and I don't enjoy the hay fever attacks after, but there is something special about unwinding under the warmth of the rays.
And then in the colder, less warmer months, making the most of the daylight, I take special care to go to bigger parks to walk my dog, the long way round. My daily walks are very local, very short and rushed, so it feels different and exciting to experience new scenes.
Naughty treats
Of course, there is no chilled day for me without naughty treats. Alongside my coffee order I will add a sweet treat. Usually this would be a caramel shortbread or a chocolate muffin. This gives me an extra little perk to look forward to.
Throughout the day, I then just pick at snacks, which I know is not healthy but it gets me through, there are rumours that there are healthy options available, but I'm not sure I'd believe them!

Nails
Girly gels gone gaga! I am abit of nail polish collector. When I possibly can, I will have a colour, or colours, on my fingernails and toe nails. I was really into my nail art a few years ago, so as you can imagine I now own every colour in nail varnish, under the sun and yes, that also includes all the nail art tools possibly available.
So what's not to like?
In 2018, a poll of 5,000 people was taken online, 74% of those were either currently depressed or had experienced depression before. Just one day off can boost your mood, increase productivity and even improve relationships.
With these benefits, it's clear chilling out is really important.
Are you watching a good boxset right now? Would you like to recommend any?
