For many people, owning their dream car is a lifelong aspiration. It's the ultimate sign of achievement. After years of waiting and dreaming, finally getting behind the wheel of the car you've always wanted is a moment to cherish.
I have been driving for 23 years now. I have grown up around cars, always seemed to have an interest in the engines and certainly was not afraid to help my dad out when he needed a hand under the bonnet of our family cars.
Thus, my love of cars evolved, in particular a deep, hearted connection with one car.
That was the Audi A4 cabriolet.
But why?
For me, it is not only a visual masterpiece, it is the elegant curves that further enhance its desirability. The pleasing aesthetics externally and of course it's convertible top, are an awesome duo.
For many many years I have dreamed that one day this gorgeous Audi would be mine. I had a rather questionable obsession with it too. I would see one and actually get upset, that it wasn't me driving it.
So why this particular cabriolet and no other convertible? It's just so pretty. Even when that roof is down, it remains pleasing to me. Some makes are boxed shaped, some look mean but the Audi A4, is in my opinion truly scrumptious.
What I like
I had my heart set on a cosmic yellow metallic (Gold) colour cabriolet. But these are quite rare. At the time of purchasing, this was becoming impossible to locate. I settled for Caribic blue (blue), as all the signs were there like fate, that this one was meant to be, and the Caribic blue turned out also to be rare. This particular colour code was only available for the 2005 model year.
Meeting expectations
So, did the Audi meet my expectations? I'll explain:
When I had the roof down, it was quite exhilarating. I was torn between the thought of everyone seeing all of me and being quite exposed to the outside. All the smells, the heat from the sun and everyone else hearing what I was talking about, made me feel vulnerable.
The car itself was very low, getting in and out of it was not elegant. Added to the fact it was only a two door car, meant I was remembering to get out myself first before letting passengers out. I'd forgotten about that element of a two door vehicle.
As the car was only a 2005 registration, the in car entertainment system was not as updated as in previous cars I had owned, the dash and steering wheel reminded me of my very first car I ever drove, just old fashioned. But to be expected, it did not bother me.
It was comfy though, my seats were a lovely cream, half fabric half leather, and I felt confident that I could have sat in them for a long journey.
Advice for your dream car
It is important to ensure that the vehicle meets your expectations in terms of performance, comfort, and overall driving experience. Conduct thorough research including the less important stuff. You should know what it is you want to buy so don't settle for anything less.
Consider your budget too, there may be added extras you were not expecting. Although I was driving my dream car, it did come with some problems that needed addressing straight away. The roof was the first, being a convertible, it was leaking and broke once, when I was putting it down. I would also consider bringing along someone who knows cars very well just in case.
Take it for the important test drive.
Take care of it, keep it clean and be proud of owning your accomplishment. Because below is a great example that it can soon come crashing down, literally.
Bitter Sweet Nightmare
Whilst writing this post, my worst nightmare happened to make my dream disappear within seconds.
I had a major collision and my beautiful car was written off. Never to be driven again. It was classed as a Category B which meant it would never go back on the road and it was to be sold for breaking up instead.
I am fine, just a sore shoulder to remind me of the dreadful incident and the loss of something I was proud of. Not only in terms of feeling happy driving it but also that my heart was broken.
They say that you should never meet your hero. I am starting to feel like this is also connected to never owning your dream car too. But I did own it! And I am thankful I had that chance, finally.
Maybe again in the future, who knows.
Does anyone else name their cars?
Have you owned your dream car?

Sorry to heard what happened to your beloved car. I used to have a yellow car that I called Sunshine. I had to part ways with back in 2020 due to financial issues. I was sad. And I do miss her a lot. But at the same time, I know she is in a good care.
